Job Title: Freelance Web Designer/Developer

Location: Remote (U.S.-based)

Job Type: Freelance/Contract

Company: Wingard Marketing and Communications

Job Summary:

We are seeking a versatile and detail-oriented Freelance Web Designer/Developer to support website projects from concept through launch. The ideal candidate combines strong visual and user experience design skills in Figma with hands-on experience building responsive WordPress websites in Elementor. This role does not require deep custom development expertise, but it does require resourcefulness, sound technical judgment, and a working understanding of HTML, CSS, basic PHP, and WordPress file structures.

The right partner can translate strategy and content into thoughtful website designs, carry those designs into polished Elementor builds, and solve day-to-day technical challenges independently while collaborating closely with Wingard's web, design, content, and account teams.

Position Details

  • Freelance, project-based contract work; workload and hours will vary by project.
  • Remote candidates and U.S. residents only.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design user-friendly, visually compelling, and responsive websites in Figma based on client goals, brand standards, content, and approved sitemaps.
  • Create wireframes, high-fidelity page designs, reusable components, responsive layouts, and developer-ready design files.
  • Build and style WordPress websites in Elementor, translating approved Figma designs accurately across desktop, tablet, and mobile breakpoints.
  • Develop flexible page templates and reusable Elementor components that are organized, consistent, and easy for clients and internal teams to maintain.
  • Apply basic HTML and CSS as needed to refine layouts, interactions, and responsive behavior beyond standard Elementor controls.
  • Troubleshoot WordPress, theme, plugin, browser, and responsive layout issues; research solutions and communicate clearly when a problem requires deeper development support.
  • Navigate WordPress themes, child themes, plugins, media, templates, and core file structures safely and confidently.
  • Configure and work with common WordPress tools and plugins, including forms, redirects, SEO settings, caching, and Advanced Custom Fields when applicable.
  • Perform content entry, quality assurance, accessibility checks, cross-browser testing, and pre-launch reviews.
  • Maintain existing WordPress websites, including design updates, content changes, plugin updates, and general troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with Wingard's web, design, content, and account teams to keep projects aligned with scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations.
  • Communicate progress, questions, risks, and recommendations proactively; manage assigned work and deadlines independently.

Qualifications:

  • A portfolio demonstrating both website design in Figma and completed WordPress websites; live Elementor examples are strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience designing responsive websites with strong typography, hierarchy, spacing, usability, and visual consistency.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining WordPress websites with Elementor and Elementor Pro.
  • Working knowledge of responsive web design, accessibility fundamentals, browser testing, and website quality assurance.
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS, plus enough PHP and JavaScript knowledge to understand existing code, make minor adjustments, and troubleshoot responsibly.
  • Basic understanding of WordPress architecture and file structures, including themes, child themes, templates, plugins, and the wp-content directory.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to research, test, and document solutions before escalating an issue.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to translate approved designs into accurate, polished website builds.
  • Strong project and time management skills, including the ability to estimate work, meet deadlines, and manage multiple assignments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and comfort collaborating in a remote, agency environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with marketing agencies or managing multiple client brands.
  • Experience with Advanced Custom Fields, common WordPress form plugins, technical SEO fundamentals, performance optimization, or website hosting environments.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, analytics and tracking tools, and collaborative project management platforms.
  • Experience with Webflow, Wix, Hubspot, Shopify or Squarespace.

How to Apply:

Interested candidates should submit their resume, a brief introduction, availability, hourly or project rate, and a portfolio that includes relevant Figma designs and live WordPress/Elementor websites to careers@wearewingard.com.
